Chronological New Testament Study Day

Mark 16; Matthew 28
1 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother
of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus'
body. 2 Very early on the first day of the week, just after
sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb 3 and they asked
each other, "Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the
tomb?" 4 But when they looked up, they saw that the
stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. 5 As they
entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the
right side, and they were alarmed. 6 "Don't be
alarmed," he said. "You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was
crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.7 But
go, tell his disciples and Peter, 'He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There
you will see him, just as he told you.' " 8 Trembling and
bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to
anyone, because they were afraid. 9 When Jesus rose early on
the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he
had driven seven demons. 10 She went and told those who had
been with him and who were mourning and weeping. 11 When they
heard that Jesus was alive and that she had seen him, they did not believe
it. 12 Afterward Jesus appeared in a different form to two of
them while they were walking in the country. 13 These returned
and reported it to the rest; but they did not believe them either. 14 Later
Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their
lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him
after he had risen. 15 He said to them, "Go into all the
world and preach the good news to all creation. 16 Whoever
believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be
condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who
believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new
tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and
when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place
their hands on sick people, and they will get well." 19 After
the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at
the right hand of God. 20 Then the disciples went out and
preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by
the signs that accompanied it.
1 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week,
Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. 2 There
was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and,
going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His
appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 The
guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. 5 The
angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are
looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has
risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7Then
go quickly and tell his disciples: 'He has risen from the dead and is going
ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.' Now I have told
you." 8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid
yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly
Jesus met them. "Greetings," he said. They came to him, clasped his
feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, "Do
not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see
me." 11 While the women were on their way, some of the
guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had
happened. 12 When the chief priests had met with the elders
and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, 13 telling
them, "You are to say, 'His disciples came during the night and stole him
away while we were asleep.' 14 If this report gets to the
governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble." 15 So
the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has
been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day. 16 Then
the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them
to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some
doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All
authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore
go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to
obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the
very end of the age."
