Challenge for Prayer
The “New India” is a youthful, ambitious, cosmopolitan and modern entity, where differences of religion, caste and gender mean less and less. It is increasingly urban and tech-savvy. The India of call centres, cricket, Bollywood, bhangra and globally connected Indian culture is exposed to and open to new ideas and ways of living, including Christianity. The most significant influence in this context is materialism – as capable of entrapping Hindus as any other group. This younger generation – 70% of India is under age 35, and 31% under age 15 – will shape India’s future. As such, they are a hugely strategic group to reach for Jesus; completely new and different missiological strategies must be undertaken to communicate and model the gospel to them. Challenge for Prayer
Church-related issues needing prayer:a) New mission groups appearing on the scene have generated some division in churches; such missions need to operate with sensitivity and humility. Pray for greater Christian unity and better coordination of Kingdom work within the state.
b) TBCU Baptist Church represents 80% of Tripura’s Christians. Pray for revival and its equipping to win Tripura for Christ. Christian tribals are poor and have few resources. Pray for the emergence of young and motivated leaders from within Tripura’s peoples.
c) Tripura Prayer Network leads a new movement solely dedicated to pray for revival and for transformation of the land. Pray that TBCU’s stated commitment to establish prayer groups in every district will yield a rich harvest for the Lord.

Challenge for Prayer
The Christian Church is still a tiny minority community of officially only 0.1% of the population (although in reality the number may be double that). Most come from the Chamar and Dom groups – both are Dalits. The Chamar are Uttar Pradesh’s largest people group, numbering as many as 24 million. They are despised as untouchables. There are reports of accelerating church growth, especially among Dalit peoples. The widespread presence of persecution, intimidation and “reconversion” campaigns spreads fear and limits growth – and betrays the oppressive beliefs of the perpetrators. Persecution also serves to refine the Church and to remove unnecessary alien associations for true followers of Jesus – much Christianity in Uttar Pradesh has been dressed in inappropriate foreign trappings. Pray for the preservation and growth of the Church.
