Answer to Prayer
Christians are now found in every stratum of Chinese society. The emergence of vibrant urban professional churches – a third expression of faith distinct from the official churches and traditionally rural house churches – marks a turning point for Christianity in China. Tragedies such as the Tiananmen Square (1989) massacre and the handling of the SARS epidemic (2002) spurred many to seek answers to difficult life questions. Corruption within the government and society has further disillusioned people. One result of such ideological disillusionment – together with rising distaste for crass materialism – has been a significant turning to God for the first time among urban professionals and rural and minority populations. For an additional 8 Answers to Prayer see Operation World book, CD-ROM, or DVD-ROM.

Challenge for Prayer
The five Li peoples make up the largest indigenous group and have a history of rebellion against Chinese rule. Pray that they may openly receive the King of kings – only 2,000 have done so. Among the related Lingao, there are 3,000 Christians, and the Cun have 900. There is nothing of God’s Word and no known Scripture recordings or the JESUS film in any of the seven languages or dialects; the only exceptions to this are the Gospel of Luke and the JESUS film in Lingao. Pray that these peoples may be reached. For an additional 2 Challenges for Prayer see Operation World book, CD-ROM, or DVD-ROM.

Challenge for Prayer
Hebei continues in its reputation for being one of the most rigidly policed provinces in China. Christians have suffered unrelenting and harsh persecution over the past three decades as a result, yet their growth to such a size (nearly six million) brings them increasing resilience and even influence with local government officials. Pray for both grace and greater freedom for the Christians in this strategic province. For an additional Challenge for Prayer see Operation World book, CD-ROM, or DVD-ROM.
