A clip from my upcoming book


My Rainbow in the Backyard at the house in Belmont



As I sit here praying how to begin this section of my story I am reminded of the time I came out the basement door, of the home I grew up in, to the back yard as I did so many times before, this time however was different instead of the normal sounds of a normal summer day with the birds chirping and the neighborhood dogs barking in the background there was a stillness in the air, nothing was moving, not even the normal summer breezes, everything seemed to be still. I stood looking around and I realized I was the only one there. All the houses were lined up the street and we were the 2nd to the last, I was able to look all the way up to the top of the hill oh I say about 3 or 4 houses up and of course the other direction I could see the only other house below us and one house behind ours, no one was around. It was still and quiet it was then I noticed that the sky started turning yellow and I just stopped there and looked at it and thought to myself, what? Yellow, (This was after the time I had given my Heart to the Lord on T.V. evangelist, I had a relationship with the Lord already so I was not scared) then it turned purple and then after a while it cleared up and the birds started to sing again the dogs started to bark in the background and all the normal sounds of a summer day returned.

This was not the only time this happened I saw this happen two other times and it was with Red to Orange to yellow and one time it was a greenish to a blue. I never did understand what it was all about till I saw the above picture and it was made clear to me.

I was blessed to be at the end of a rainbow a big rainbow that flooded the whole scope of my vision with wonderful color. Not once but 3 times. My Loving Savior came to me, a little boy of (I am estimating)  7 years old and painted the Sky with Primary colors just to tell me he loved me and was so happy I gave my life to HIM.

Answer to Prayer

Christians are now found in every stratum of Chinese society. The emergence of vibrant urban professional churches – a third expression of faith distinct from the official churches and traditionally rural house churches – marks a turning point for Christianity in China. Tragedies such as the Tiananmen Square (1989) massacre and the handling of the SARS epidemic (2002) spurred many to seek answers to difficult life questions. Corruption within the government and society has further disillusioned people. One result of such ideological disillusionment – together with rising distaste for crass materialism – has been a significant turning to God for the first time among urban professionals and rural and minority populations.

Challenge for Prayer

The area is also one of China’s least evangelized – some reckon Guangxi is as much as 90% unevangelized. Difficult terrain and poor transportation keep many villages isolated from the truth, and the government restricts the number of meeting points. Pray that Christians might carry the light of the gospel even to the darkest and most remote corners of the region. Praise God for rapid growth among the Han-majority house churches in recent years.

Challenge for Prayer

The challenge of the unreached also continues to be great. Spiritual breakthrough in a few ethnic groups obscures the fact that most peoples remain unreached. Pray for:
a) The 21 Miao peoples – three have small Christian minorities, but 11 have no known believers.
b) Many of the peoples indigenous to Guizhou with no Christians whatsoever, including the four Yao peoples. The three million-plus Bouyei are only about 0.5% Christian and remain over 70% unevangelized. Most Hmong groups, as well as the Hmu and Shui, are very populous peoples but with only small numbers of believers. Pray for local and outside Christians to reach out to these.

The Living Stone and a Chosen People

4 As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him— 5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house[a] to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For in Scripture it says:
"See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone,
and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame."[b]

7 Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, "The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,"[c]

8 and, "A stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall."[d] They stumble because they disobey the message—which is also what they were destined for.

Living Godly Lives in a Pagan Society

11 Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. 12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.
13 Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, 14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. 15 For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people. 16 Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God's slaves. 17 Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.

Rebuilding the Altar

1 When the seventh month came and the Israelites had settled in their towns, the people assembled as one man in Jerusalem. 2 Then Jeshua son of Jozadak and his fellow priests and Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and his associates began to build the altar of the God of Israel to sacrifice burnt offerings on it, in accordance with what is written in the Law of Moses the man of God. 3 Despite their fear of the peoples around them, they built the altar on its foundation and sacrificed burnt offerings on it to the LORD, both the morning and evening sacrifices. 4 Then in accordance with what is written, they celebrated the Feast of Tabernacles with the required number of burnt offerings prescribed for each day. 5 After that, they presented the regular burnt offerings, the New Moon sacrifices and the sacrifices for all the appointed sacred feasts of the LORD, as well as those brought as freewill offerings to the LORD. 6 On the first day of the seventh month they began to offer burnt offerings to the LORD, though the foundation of the LORD's temple had not yet been laid.
Rebuilding the Temple

7 Then they gave money to the masons and carpenters, and gave food and drink and oil to the people of Sidon and Tyre, so that they would bring cedar logs by sea from Lebanon to Joppa, as authorized by Cyrus king of Persia.
8 In the second month of the second year after their arrival at the house of God in Jerusalem, Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Jeshua son of Jozadak and the rest of their brothers (the priests and the Levites and all who had returned from the captivity to Jerusalem) began the work, appointing Levites twenty years of age and older to supervise the building of the house of the LORD. 9 Jeshua and his sons and brothers and Kadmiel and his sons (descendants of Hodaviah [a] ) and the sons of Henadad and their sons and brothers—all Levites—joined together in supervising those working on the house of God.

10 When the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, the priests in their vestments and with trumpets, and the Levites (the sons of Asaph) with cymbals, took their places to praise the LORD, as prescribed by David king of Israel. 11 With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the LORD : "He is good; his love to Israel endures forever." And all the people gave a great shout of praise to the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid. 12 But many of the older priests and Levites and family heads, who had seen the former temple, wept aloud when they saw the foundation of this temple being laid, while many others shouted for joy. 13 No one could distinguish the sound of the shouts of joy from the sound of weeping, because the people made so much noise. And the sound was heard far away.

Answer to Prayer

The faith and commitment of Christians under what may have been the harshest and most widespread persecution of the Church in all history. Persecution and suffering refined the Church and shaped it to withstand successive waves of repression and government efforts to weaken or destroy it. God, powerfully working through the unwitting atheist rulers of China, cleared spiritual roadblocks for the advancement of Christianity through Mao Zedong; freed up the economy and gave more freedom to Christians through Deng; and, through Hu Jintao, God guided China to new levels of interconnectedness with the rest of the world, strengthening the link between the Chinese Church and the worldwide body of Christ.

Challenge for Prayer

Fujian’s connection with Taiwan is ancient and profound. Around 80% of Taiwan’s population can trace their roots back to Fujian province. The Chinese diaspora in Southeast Asia and even globally is heavily weighted toward peoples from Fujian – Hokkien, Teochew, Hakka and others. Business, family and traditional connections between Taiwan and Fujian enable much potential ministry. But these links are also at the root of the revival of Buddhism and Daoism in the area, as Taiwanese seek to restore or build temples and shrines in their ancestral areas. Over 20,000 have been restored or built without legal permission. Pray that the connections between Fujian and overseas Chinese might serve to extend the gospel.

Challenge for Prayer

The least evangelized:
a) The Dongxiang and Bonan are of mixed Mongolian background and are strongly Muslim. No one has ever sought to evangelize these isolated peoples – probably China’s least evangelized. There are a few dozen believers in each group. The Enger Yugur are related and have at least several dozen believers.
b) The Muslim Hui are numerous in the cities; the city of Linxia has only a handful of believers. Despite little outreach, there are a growing number of Hui believers scattered across China and a few small groups of believers. The Hui Bible was translated in 2009 and the NT is now in distribution.
c) Tibetan peoples are largely Lamaistic Buddhists and number 600,000. There is one Tibetan church. Four Tibetan peoples are indigenous to Gansu – the Jone and Saragh Yugur have small numbers of believers, but the Zhugqu and Boyu have none.

Challenge for Prayer

This province has been economically booming for decades, and its people have a long tradition of being traders and entrepreneurs. Shenzen, its primary port, grew from a small fishing village to a metropolitan area of over 12 million people in the span of 25 years! Migrant labour traditionally fuelled Guangdong’s growth and wealth, with up to 30 million people from elsewhere working seasonally in the province. But with the rise of the economy in other parts of China, Guangdong’s factories are now short of workers. Rapid increases in trade and wealth, the high proportion of migrants, famously crooked local officials and historically powerful organized crime groups create an environment ripe for corruption, exploitation, crime, sexual immorality and drug abuse – all of which have rates higher here than nationally. Pray that such moral declension might be addressed; pray that the Holy Spirit would work in individuals and society for God-pleasing change.

This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, 11 trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would follow. 12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

13 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. 14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."[a]

Warning Against the Adulteress

1 My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you.
2 Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.

3 Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.

4 Say to wisdom, "You are my sister," and call understanding your kinsman;

5 they will keep you from the adulteress, from the wayward wife with her seductive words.

At the seat of China’s power, Party officials try to keep tight control of Christian activity by being particularly harsh toward unofficial ministries. TSPM churches are increasing and fall far short of having enough buildings to meet the spiritual interest. Ironically, this forces many of Beijing’s Christians and seekers into the very unregistered networks the state attempts to suppress, which in turn has forced officials to assume a more open stance. Youth, students and business people are especially responsive, and innovative ministry is particularly effective among them. Pray for further cooperation between TSPM churches and house churches and for a government stance that allows both to continue to prosper.

The massive Three Gorges Dam project displaced up to 1.4 million people. Compensation for this enforced relocation was usually inadequate and/or stolen by corrupt officials. Many have chosen to move to Chongqing or Fuling. Pray for hearts opened to the gospel because of this traumatic change.
