Challenge for Prayer
China’s rising role on the world stage – demonstrated powerfully through the 2008 Olympics – is shaping what some call the “Chinese Century”. China now holds astounding influence on world economics and politics, particularly throughout the Global South. Countless billions of dollars have been invested in Asia, Africa and Latin America to develop trade and goodwill and to exert influence. Yet, China itself remains politically oppressive and is wracked with corruption. Pray for God’s Sovereign hand at work in and through the Chinese government; pray that all forms of wickedness may be opposed, that kindness be shown to the oppressed and that justice and prosperity for all be the goals of China’s economic and foreign policies. For an additional 6 Challenges for Prayer see Operation World book, CD-ROM, or DVD-ROM.

Challenge for Prayer
The Church in Shanxi is one of the fastest growing in China, possibly because of these two aforementioned issues. The TSPM, the house churches and even Catholics are growing; many thousands of new believers come into the fold every year. Praise God and pray for continued growth of both numbers and maturity. For an additional 3 Challenges for Prayer see Operation World book, CD-ROM, or DVD-ROM.

Challenge for Prayer
Chengdu, with 4.3 million people in its city proper and 11 million in its larger conurbation, is a key city for the whole of western China. In addition to the growing TSPM churches in the city, there are over 130,000 believers in the house church networks. The gospel is making great headway in this city. There are many ethnic-minority groups, especially Tibetans. Pray for this needy city and those seeking to reach it.For an additional 3 Challenges for Prayer see Operation World book, CD-ROM, or DVD-ROM.

Challenge for Prayer
Tianjin, as a major international port, should be a vibrant and dynamic city with a strong economy, but quirks of history, poor city planning, an economic slowdown and the decrease of export shipping have stunted its development. Despite this, there are a wide range of Chinese ethnicities and foreign nationalities present along with the vision and potential to be a world-class port city with a thriving economy. Pray that such growth and openness to the region as a seaport would also bring the strong presence of the good news. For an additional Challenge for Prayer see Operation World book, CD-ROM, or DVD-ROM.
