Proverbs 13 (Amplified Bible)

Proverbs 13

 ¹A WISE son heeds [and is the fruit of] his father's instruction and correction, but a scoffer listens not to rebuke.     ²A good man eats good from the fruit of his mouth, but the desire of the treacherous is for violence.
    ³He who guards his mouth keeps his life, but he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.
    ⁴The appetite of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, but the appetite of the diligent is abundantly supplied.^{(A)
    5}A [consistently] righteous man hates lying and deceit, but a wicked man is loathsome [his very breath spreads pollution] and he comes [surely] to shame.
    ⁶Righteousness (rightness and justice in every area and relation) guards him who is upright in the way, but wickedness plunges into sin and overthrows the sinner.
    ⁷One man considers himself rich, yet has nothing [to keep permanently]; another man considers himself poor, yet has great [and indestructible] riches.^{(B)
    8}A rich man can buy his way out of threatened death by paying a ransom, but the poor man does not even have to listen to threats [from the envious].
    ⁹The light of the [uncompromisingly] righteous [is within him--it grows brighter and] rejoices, but the lamp of the wicked [furnishes only a derived, temporary light and] shall be put out shortly.
    ¹⁰By pride and insolence comes only contention, but with the well-advised is skillful and godly Wisdom.
    ¹¹Wealth [not earned but] won in haste or unjustly or from the production of things for vain or detrimental use [such riches] will dwindle away, but he who gathers little by little will increase [his riches].
    ¹²Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire is fulfilled, it is a tree of life.
    ¹³Whoever despises the word and counsel [of God] brings destruction upon himself, but he who [reverently] fears and respects the commandment [of God] is rewarded.
    ¹⁴The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, that one may avoid the snares of death.
    ¹⁵Good understanding wins favor, but the way of the transgressor is hard [like the barren, dry soil or the impassable swamp].
    ¹⁶Every prudent man deals with knowledge, but a [self-confident] fool exposes and flaunts his folly.
    ¹⁷A wicked messenger falls into evil, but a faithful ambassador brings healing.
    ¹⁸Poverty and shame come to him who refuses instruction and correction, but he who heeds reproof is honored.
    ¹⁹Satisfied desire is sweet to a person; therefore it is hateful and exceedingly offensive to [self-confident] fools to give up evil [upon which they have set their hearts].
    ²⁰He who walks [as a companion] with wise men is wise, but he who associates with [self-confident] fools is [a fool himself and] shall smart for it.^{(C)
    21}Evil pursues sinners, but the consistently upright and in right standing with God is recompensed with good.
    ²²A good man leaves an inheritance [of moral stability and goodness] to his children's children, and the wealth of the sinner [finds its way eventually] into the hands of the righteous, for whom it was laid up.
    ²³Much food is in the tilled land of the poor, but there are those who are destroyed because of injustice.
    ²⁴He who spares his rod [of discipline] hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines diligently and punishes him early.^{(D)
    25}The [uncompromisingly] righteous eats to his own satisfaction, but the stomach of the wicked is in want.

Proverbs 12

 ¹WHOEVER LOVES instruction and correction loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is like a brute beast, stupid and indiscriminating.     ²A good man obtains favor from the Lord, but a man of wicked devices He condemns.
    ³A man shall not be established by wickedness, but the root of the [uncompromisingly] righteous shall never be moved.
    ⁴A virtuous and worthy wife [earnest and strong in character] is a crowning joy to her husband, but she who makes him ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.^{(A)
    5}The thoughts and purposes of the [consistently] righteous are honest and reliable, but the counsels and designs of the wicked are treacherous.
    ⁶The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them and the innocent ones [thus endangered].
    ⁷The wicked are overthrown and are not, but the house of the [uncompromisingly] righteous shall stand.
    ⁸A man shall be commended according to his Wisdom [godly Wisdom, which is comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God], but he who is of a perverse heart shall be despised.
    ⁹Better is he who is lightly esteemed but works for his own support than he who assumes honor for himself and lacks bread.
    ¹⁰A [consistently] righteous man regards the life of his beast, but even the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.^{(B)
    11}He who tills his land shall be satisfied with bread, but he who follows worthless pursuits is lacking in sense and is without understanding.
    ¹²The wicked desire the booty of evil men, but the root of the [uncompromisingly] righteous yields [richer fruitage].
    ¹³The wicked is [dangerously] snared by the transgression of his lips, but the [uncompromisingly] righteous shall come out of trouble.
    ¹⁴From the fruit of his words a man shall be satisfied with good, and the work of a man's hands shall come back to him [as a harvest].
    ¹⁵The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who listens to counsel is wise.^{(C)
    16}A fool's wrath is quickly and openly known, but a prudent man ignores an insult.
    ¹⁷He who breathes out truth shows forth righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God), but a false witness utters deceit.
    ¹⁸There are those who speak rashly, like the piercing of a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
    ¹⁹Truthful lips shall be established forever, but a lying tongue is [credited] but for a moment.
    ²⁰Deceit is in the hearts of those who devise evil, but for the counselors of peace there is joy.
    ²¹No [actual] evil, misfortune, or calamity shall come upon the righteous, but the wicked shall be filled with evil, misfortune, and calamity.^{(D)
    22}Lying lips are extremely disgusting and hateful to the Lord, but they who deal faithfully are His delight.^{(E)
    23}A prudent man is reluctant to display his knowledge, but the heart of [self-confident] fools proclaims their folly.^{(F)
    24}The hand of the diligent will rule, but the slothful will be put to forced labor.
    ²⁵Anxiety in a man's heart weighs it down, but an encouraging word makes it glad.^{(G)
    26}The [consistently] righteous man is a guide to his neighbor, but the way of the wicked causes others to go astray.
    ²⁷The slothful man does not catch his game or roast it once he kills it, but the diligent man gets precious possessions.
    ²⁸Life is in the way of righteousness (moral and spiritual rectitude in every area and relation), and in its pathway there is no death but immortality (perpetual, eternal life).^(H)

Prayer Against Unjust Enemies

What is the Armor of God and how do I put it on?

ARMOR OF GOD

Father God, in the name of Jesus and by the power of His precious blood shed on Calvary, I put on Your Armor and I line up.

I Put on Your Armor:

I put on the Belt of Truth which is Christ Jesus living within me.

I put on the Breastplate of Righteousness which is Christ responding through me emotionally as He would respond.

I put on the Gospel Sandals of Peace so that my life will be an expression of Your peace.

I put on the Helmet of Salvation to protect my thinking and my mind.

I carry the Shield of Faith to protect me from the fiery darts of the enemy and help me walk in peace.

I carry the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God, my offensive and defensive weapon against Satan.

I Line Up:

Body, I command you to line up under my soul.

Soul, I command you to line up under my spirit.

Spirit, I command you to line up under the Holy Spirit of the Living God.

Ephesians 6:10-18

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

What is the Armor of God?

God's armor brings victory because it is far more than a protective covering. It is the very life of Jesus Christ Himself. "Put on the armor of light," wrote Paul in his letter to the Romans, "...clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ." (Romans 13:12-14)  When you do, He becomes your hiding place, and shelter in the storm--just as He was to David. Hidden in Him, you can count on His victory, for He not only covers you as a shield, He also fills you with His life.

"I am the vine; you are the branches," said Jesus. "If a man abides in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." (John 15:5)

Since living in the safety of the armor means oneness with Jesus, we can expect to share His struggles as well as His peace. Remember, God has promised us victory in the midst of trials, not immunity from pain. So "do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you, but rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ..." (1 Peter 4:12-13) Christian heroes who have been tortured for their faith continue to testify to the supernatural strength--even joy--that enables them to endure unthinkable pain.

They affirm with Paul - "that in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.... For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers.... will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:37-39)

This wonderful truth has become reality to all who believe and follow Jesus. When you put on His armor, His life surrounds you, keeping you safe, close to Himself, and free to be His precious friend and trusted companion. So "put on Christ." (Galatians 3:27) He is your victory!

   but whoever hates correction is stupid.

   but he condemns those who devise wicked schemes.

   but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones.

 ¹³ Evildoers are trapped by their sinful talk,
   and so the innocent escape trouble.
 ¹⁴ From the fruit of their lips people are filled with good things,
   and the work of their hands brings them reward.
 ¹⁵ The way of fools seems right to them,
   but the wise listen to advice.
 ¹⁶ Fools show their annoyance at once,
   but the prudent overlook an insult.
 ¹⁷ An honest witness tells the truth,
   but a false witness tells lies.
 ¹⁸ The words of the reckless pierce like swords,
   but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
 ¹⁹ Truthful lips endure forever,
   but a lying tongue lasts only a moment.
 ²⁰ Deceit is in the hearts of those who plot evil,
   but those who promote peace have joy.
 ²¹ No harm overtakes the righteous,
   but the wicked have their fill of trouble.
 ²² The LORD detests lying lips,
   but he delights in people who are trustworthy.
 ²³ The prudent keep their knowledge to themselves,
   but a fool’s heart blurts out folly.
 ²⁴ Diligent hands will rule,
   but laziness ends in forced labor.

   but the way of the wicked leads them astray.

Invitations of Wisdom and Folly

 ¹ Wisdom has built her house;

So in this light let’s look at this so we can find out what is fact and what is fiction.

As we draw closer to the end of this current age we need to be very aware of things that require us to implant anything in our right hand or our forehead.

Do not just blow this off.

There is no reason for fear.

God loves us and keeps us in perfict peace as we place ALL our cares on Him.

God is in total control.

He does not want us to be ignorant of the tricks of the enemy.

Paul's Vision and His Painful Problem

 ¹ We can't gain anything by bragging. But I have to do it anyway. I am going to tell you what I've seen. I want to talk about what the Lord has shown me.  ² I know a believer in Christ who was taken up to the third heaven 14 years ago. I don't know if his body was taken up or not. Only God knows. ³ I don't know if that man was in his body or out of it. Only God knows. But I do know that ⁴ he was taken up to paradise. He heard things that couldn't be put into words. They were things that people aren't allowed to talk about.
 ⁵ I will brag about a man like that. But I won't brag about myself. I will brag only about how weak I am.
 ⁶ Suppose I decide to brag. That would not make me a fool, because I would be telling the truth. But I don't do it. Then no one will think more of me than he should because of what I do or say.
 ⁷ I could have become proud of myself because of the amazing and wonderful things God has shown me. So I was given a problem that caused pain in my body. It is a messenger from Satan to make me suffer. ⁸ Three times I begged the Lord to take it away from me. ⁹ But he said to me, "My grace is all you need. My power is strongest when you are weak."
   So I am very happy to brag about how weak I am. Then Christ's power can rest on me. ¹⁰ Because of how I suffered for Christ, I'm glad that I am weak. I am glad in hard times. I am glad when people say mean things about me. I am glad when things are difficult. And I am glad when people make me suffer. When I am weak, I am strong.

Malachi 3:3 says: 'He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver.'

This verse puzzled some women in a Bible study and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God.

One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible Study.

That week, the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining Silver.

As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities.

The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot; then she thought again about the verse that says: 'He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver.'

She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time.

The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.

The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, 'How do you know when the silver is fully refined?'

He smiled at her and answered, 'Oh, that's easy -- when I see my image in it.'

If today you are feeling the heat of the fire , remember that God has his eye on you and will keep watching you until He sees His image in you.

To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.

 ¹ Blessed is he who considers the poor;
         The LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.
 ² The LORD will preserve him and keep him alive,
         And he will be blessed on the earth;
         You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies.
 ³ The LORD will strengthen him on his bed of illness;
         You will sustain him on his sickbed.
       
 ⁴ I said, “LORD, be merciful to me;
         Heal my soul, for I have sinned against You.”
 ⁵ My enemies speak evil of me:
         “When will he die, and his name perish?”
 ⁶ And if he comes to see me, he speaks lies;
         His heart gathers iniquity to itself;
         When he goes out, he tells it.
       
 ⁷ All who hate me whisper together against me;
         Against me they devise my hurt.
 ⁸ “An evil disease,” they say, “clings to him.
         And now that he lies down, he will rise up no more.”
 ⁹ Even my own familiar friend in whom I trusted,
         Who ate my bread,
         Has lifted up his heel against me.
       
 ¹⁰ But You, O LORD, be merciful to me, and raise me up,
         That I may repay them.
