Challenges for Prayer
Christian commitment is low and nominalism widespread, despite nearly all Bahamians claiming to be Christian. Few are willing to commit themselves to the Lord’s work, and many congregations are without adequate pastoral care. Most households own a Bible; few actively read it. Pray for revival and for a missionary vision among believers. For an additional 2 Challenges for Prayer see Operation World book, CD-ROM, or DVD-ROM.

1 Thessalonians 2
Paul's Ministry in Thessalonica
1 You know, brothers and sisters, that our visit to you was not without results. 2 We had previously suffered and been treated outrageously in Philippi, as you know, but with the help of our God we dared to tell you his gospel in the face of strong opposition. 3 For the appeal we make does not spring from error or impure motives, nor are we trying to trick you. 4 On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts. 5 You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed—God is our witness. 6 We were not looking for praise from people, not from you or anyone else, even though as apostles of Christ we could have asserted our authority. 7 Instead, we were like young children[a] among you.
Just as a nursing mother cares for her children, 8 so we cared for you. Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well. 9 Surely you remember, brothers and sisters, our toil and hardship; we worked night and day in order not to be a burden to anyone while we preached the gospel of God to you. 10 You are witnesses, and so is God, of how holy, righteous and blameless we were among you who believed. 11 For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, 12 encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.
13 And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe. 14 For you, brothers and sisters, became imitators of God's churches in Judea, which are in Christ Jesus: You suffered from your own people the same things those churches suffered from the Jews 15 who killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets and also drove us out. They displease God and are hostile to everyone 16 in their effort to keep us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved. In this way they always heap up their sins to the limit. The wrath of God has come upon them at last.[b]
Paul's Longing to See the Thessalonians
17 But, brothers and sisters, when we were orphaned by being separated from you for a short time (in person, not in thought), out of our intense longing we made every effort to see you. 18 For we wanted to come to you—certainly I, Paul, did, again and again—but Satan blocked our way. 19 For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you? 20 Indeed, you are our glory and joy.

Proverbs 28 (New International Version)
Proverbs 28
1 The wicked man flees though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.
2 When a country is rebellious, it has many rulers, but a man of understanding and knowledge maintains order.
3 A ruler [a] who oppresses the poor is like a driving rain that leaves no crops.
4 Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, but those who keep the law resist them.
5 Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the LORD understand it fully.
6 Better a poor man whose walk is blameless than a rich man whose ways are perverse.
7 He who keeps the law is a discerning son, but a companion of gluttons disgraces his father.
8 He who increases his wealth by exorbitant interest amasses it for another, who will be kind to the poor.
9 If anyone turns a deaf ear to the law, even his prayers are detestable.
10 He who leads the upright along an evil path will fall into his own trap, but the blameless will receive a good inheritance.
11 A rich man may be wise in his own eyes, but a poor man who has discernment sees through him.
12 When the righteous triumph, there is great elation; but when the wicked rise to power, men go into hiding.
13 He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.
14 Blessed is the man who always fears the LORD, but he who hardens his heart falls into trouble.
15 Like a roaring lion or a charging bear is a wicked man ruling over a helpless people.
16 A tyrannical ruler lacks judgment, but he who hates ill-gotten gain will enjoy a long life.
17 A man tormented by the guilt of murder will be a fugitive till death; let no one support him.
18 He whose walk is blameless is kept safe, but he whose ways are perverse will suddenly fall.
19 He who works his land will have abundant food, but the one who chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty.
20 A faithful man will be richly blessed, but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished.
21 To show partiality is not good— yet a man will do wrong for a piece of bread.
22 A stingy man is eager to get rich and is unaware that poverty awaits him.
23 He who rebukes a man will in the end gain more favor than he who has a flattering tongue.
24 He who robs his father or mother and says, "It's not wrong"— he is partner to him who destroys.
25 A greedy man stirs up dissension, but he who trusts in the LORD will prosper.
26 He who trusts in himself is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom is kept safe.
27 He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses.
28 When the wicked rise to power, people go into hiding; but when the wicked perish, the righteous thrive.

Psalm 59 (New International Version)
Psalm 59
For the director of music. To the tune of "Do Not Destroy." Of David. A miktam . When Saul had sent men to watch David's house in order to kill him. [a]
1 Deliver me from my enemies, O God; protect me from those who rise up against me.
2 Deliver me from evildoers and save me from bloodthirsty men.
3 See how they lie in wait for me! Fierce men conspire against me for no offense or sin of mine, O LORD.
4 I have done no wrong, yet they are ready to attack me. Arise to help me; look on my plight!
5 O LORD God Almighty, the God of Israel, rouse yourself to punish all the nations; show no mercy to wicked traitors. Selah
6 They return at evening, snarling like dogs, and prowl about the city.
7 See what they spew from their mouths— they spew out swords from their lips, and they say, "Who can hear us?"
8 But you, O LORD, laugh at them; you scoff at all those nations.
9 O my Strength, I watch for you; you, O God, are my fortress, 10 my loving God. God will go before me and will let me gloat over those who slander me.
11 But do not kill them, O Lord our shield, [b] or my people will forget. In your might make them wander about, and bring them down.
12 For the sins of their mouths, for the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride. For the curses and lies they utter,
13 consume them in wrath, consume them till they are no more. Then it will be known to the ends of the earth that God rules over Jacob. Selah
14 They return at evening, snarling like dogs, and prowl about the city.
15 They wander about for food and howl if not satisfied.
16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
17 O my Strength, I sing praise to you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God.

Challenges for Prayer
The economic boom associated with oil will not last long, and is predicted to dry up before 2025. The bonanza sees Baku blossom with wealthy elite and luxury goods. Outside of the capital, little effect is observable. Promised economic reforms have lagged, but it is vital that the current wealth is invested heavily into long-term infrastructure and into developing other sources of income.Christianity retains an unhealthy association with Russian imperialism, Armenian enmity and Western neo-colonialism. The openness and freedoms immediately following independence have dwindled somewhat, in terms of religion, media and human rights. The state feels threatened by many forces, internal and external. Pray for increased commitment to fundamental freedoms and for disassociation of the gospel message from foreign cultures.

Respect
Respect is a
very interesting topic when I was younger it was very important respect your
elders respect strangers get up and give someone your seat, respect it was
drilled into us from a very early age respect your teachers, respect the police
officers respect your parents. Nowadays it seems that no one is respecting
anyone and anything goes there’s no need for respect and if you expect it then
your looked at as old and out of touch.
Well let’s
look at the definition of the word respect, when I Googled it this is what It
told me:
re·spect
/riˈspekt/
Noun
A feeling of deep admiration for someone or something
elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.
Verb
Admire (someone or something) deeply, as a result of their
abilities, qualities, or achievements.
Synonyms
noun. regard - esteem - reverence - deference -
consideration
verb. honour - honor - esteem - regard - venerate –
revere
Not being completely satisfied with
the traditional definition I found the urban dictionary and it gave me their
definition let’s check it out:
It means valuing each others points
of views. It means being open to being wrong. It means accepting people as they
are. It means not dumping on someone because you're having a bad day. It means
being polite and kind always, because being kind to people is not negotiable.
It means not dissing people because they're different to you. It means not
gossiping about people or spreading lies.
We are lacking respect for each
other.
(Warning In some definitions The urban
dictionary contains offensive language)
So now we can see the contrast between the generations
and the expectations of the generations are not that different. When I began
this journey I anticipated that there was going to be a bigger difference but
after studying this closer I began to realize that even though we were using
different words the meanings behind the words are really not that much
different so it makes me ponder – I’m looking at the urban definition and the
part that says valuing others points and when I look at the traditional
definition under synonyms I see several things that match what they’re saying,
honor, esteem, regard, consideration. Then moving on to the next part of the
urban definition it means being open to being wrong – and I see is in the
traditional definition under the noun it states a feeling of deep admiration
for someone or something elected by their abilities, qualities, or
achievements, which could be understood to be the same. Going on to the next
part of the urban definition it states not dumping on someone because you’re having
a bad day, on the traditional definition that’s summed up in the word regard. Going
back to the urban dictionary to the next part polite and always kind in the
traditional dictionary definition that’s honor and esteem, you see definitions
of words change and some people don’t understand the definition of the word as other
people understand the definition so when we say honor and esteem some
understand that differently so the definitions of those words can change and
sometimes confusion can arise. The next part in the urban dictionary says it
means not Dissing people because they’re different than you and the traditional
definition that means regard consideration esteem honor, the traditional
dictionary tells us that’s kind of the same thing it’s honor esteem regard
consideration and have a deep admiration for your fellow man so a lot of it is
just understanding the difference in the definitions of the meaning of words
because the definition of words change from generation to generation and
communication and being able to understand each other and not assume that the
other person knows what someone thinking. We have to make sure that we live a
life with no regrets. And that means that we respect ourselves we respect other
people and we respect the things that God entrusted us with. Then we will live
peaceably and be happy and have peace no matter what happens around us. We can’t
control what happens around us the only thing we can do is control how we react
to it and when we are at peace with God and at peace with the people around us
and at peace with ourselves then nothing that the can shake us that’s when we
have armor on. Having done all then Stand and Stand Therefore! with respect For
God, Others and Our Self. God’s definition of respect do right love mercy – dig
into the word and find out what things God loves and what things he hates I
could tell you that then it would be like handing it to you and would mean very
little but if you dig for it then you have to do a little bit of work and you
remember it and you have value in it a little more importance will be placed
on, anything that’s worth getting is worth working for. So love mercy and put
on your armor and having done all then stand and stand therefore with Respect
and you have nothing to fear Christ Jesus is coming in the clouds saying come
on up here and we all hope to hear Him say “well done good and faithful
servants”.
Shalom,

1 Thessalonians 1 (New International Version, ©2010)
1 Thessalonians 1
1 Paul, Silas[a] and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace and peace to you.
Thanksgiving for the Thessalonians' Faith
2 We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers. 3 We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
4 For we know, brothers and sisters[b] loved by God, that he has chosen you, 5 because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake. 6 You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. 7 And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. 8 The Lord's message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia—your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore we do not need to say anything about it, 9 for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, 10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.

Proverbs 27 (New International Version)
Proverbs 27
1 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.
2 Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; someone else, and not your own lips.
3 Stone is heavy and sand a burden, but provocation by a fool is heavier than both.
4 Anger is cruel and fury overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy?
5 Better is open rebuke than hidden love.
6 Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.
7 He who is full loathes honey, but to the hungry even what is bitter tastes sweet.
8 Like a bird that strays from its nest is a man who strays from his home.
9 Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart, and the pleasantness of one's friend springs from his earnest counsel.
10 Do not forsake your friend and the friend of your father, and do not go to your brother's house when disaster strikes you— better a neighbor nearby than a brother far away.
11 Be wise, my son, and bring joy to my heart; then I can answer anyone who treats me with contempt.
12 The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
13 Take the garment of one who puts up security for a stranger; hold it in pledge if he does it for a wayward woman.
14 If a man loudly blesses his neighbor early in the morning, it will be taken as a curse.
15 A quarrelsome wife is like a constant dripping on a rainy day;
16 restraining her is like restraining the wind or grasping oil with the hand.
17 As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.
18 He who tends a fig tree will eat its fruit, and he who looks after his master will be honored.
19 As water reflects a face, so a man's heart reflects the man.
20 Death and Destruction [a] are never satisfied, and neither are the eyes of man.
21 The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but man is tested by the praise he receives.
22 Though you grind a fool in a mortar, grinding him like grain with a pestle, you will not remove his folly from him.
23 Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds;
24 for riches do not endure forever, and a crown is not secure for all generations.
25 When the hay is removed and new growth appears and the grass from the hills is gathered in,
26 the lambs will provide you with clothing, and the goats with the price of a field.
27 You will have plenty of goats' milk to feed you and your family and to nourish your servant girls.

Psalm 58 (New International Version)
Psalm 58
For the director of music. To the tune of "Do Not Destroy." Of David. A miktam . [a]
1 Do you rulers indeed speak justly? Do you judge uprightly among men?
2 No, in your heart you devise injustice, and your hands mete out violence on the earth.
3 Even from birth the wicked go astray; from the womb they are wayward and speak lies.
4 Their venom is like the venom of a snake, like that of a cobra that has stopped its ears,
5 that will not heed the tune of the charmer, however skillful the enchanter may be.
6 Break the teeth in their mouths, O God; tear out, O LORD, the fangs of the lions!
7 Let them vanish like water that flows away; when they draw the bow, let their arrows be blunted.
8 Like a slug melting away as it moves along, like a stillborn child, may they not see the sun.
9 Before your pots can feel the heat of the thorns— whether they be green or dry—the wicked will be swept away. [b]
10 The righteous will be glad when they are avenged, when they bathe their feet in the blood of the wicked.
11 Then men will say, "Surely the righteous still are rewarded; surely there is a God who judges the earth."

Matt Maher- You Were On The Cross
by Matt Maher. When you love someone dearly, you are willing to give freely to the point of self-sacrifice. God paid dearly with the life of his Son, the highest price he could pay. Jesus accepted our punishment, paid the price for our sins, and then offered us the new life that he had bought for us. (John 3:16)

Matt Maher-Empty And Beautiful
My past won't stop haunting me
In this prison there's a fight between
Who I am and who I used to be
This thorn in my side is a grace
For because of it the flesh and blood of God
Was offered in my place, my place
You fought the fight in me
You chased me down and finished the race
I was blind but now I see
Jesus You kept the faith in me
Where did my best friends go?
In my defense they disappeared
Just like Your friends did to You, oh Lord
But You were there, You gave me strength
So this little one might come to know
The glory of Your name, Your name
You fought the fight in me
You chased me down and finished the race
I was blind but now I see
Jesus You kept the faith in me
Awaiting, set apart like incense to Your heart
A libation I'm pouring out
Empty and beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
You fought the fight in me
You chased me down and finished the race
I was blind but now I see
Jesus You kept the faith in me
You fought the fight in me
You chased me down and finished the race
I was blind but now I see
Jesus You kept the faith in me
Jesus You kept the faith in me
Savior, You kept the faith in me
Who I am and who I used to be
This thorn in my side is a grace
For because of it the flesh and blood of God
Was offered in my place, my place
